Job description

About PUM
PUM is a unique NGO based in The Hague. Our mission is to strengthen business ecosystems and create lasting economic, social and environmental impact. We actively support women's and youth entrepreneurship and employment. We are active in 26 countries across the Global South, with 12 programmes. Our 1,200 volunteer experts share their knowledge and expertise with ambitious entrepreneurs in small and medium-sized enterprises and the business organisations that support them. We believe in the power of collaboration and the magic that happens when diverse perspectives come together. Together, we grow!

PUM is developing rapidly, with ambitious plans to increase our global impact. With a new team of country managers and programme managers and a strong partnership strategy, we are building the future of our organisation. That is why we are looking for a new business developer to strengthen our team and help expand our network of partners and donors. Do you understand how foundations and companies think, and what moves them to invest in impact? Do you enjoy turning a first conversation into a lasting partnership? And do you get energy from building something new, with both a strategic view and a hands-on attitude? Then this is your opportunity! We are looking for a

Business Developer Foundations & Corporate Partnerships (32 – 37.5 hours)

The role
As Business Developer Foundations & Corporate Partnerships, you build PUM's partnerships with corporate foundations, family foundations and companies. Together with these partners, we want to develop programmes that they can fund directly: for example, strengthening cooperatives in a specific value chain or in a specific country. You find these partners, understand their philosophy, criteria and way of working, and, together with colleagues, translate their ambitions into strong proposals and long-term partnerships. This is a new role that gives you plenty of room to further develop and shape fundraising within PUM. You help build a solid foundation and create opportunities to increase our impact. That calls for someone who thinks strategically and enjoys rolling up their sleeves: you spot opportunities, bring the right people together and are experienced in writing winning proposals. PUM has a promising network of existing relationships that can be developed further. Your key responsibilities:

  • Identifying opportunities and approaching corporate foundations, family foundations and companies whose priorities match PUM's mission, programmes and countries.

  • Building and maintaining lasting relationships with foundations, companies and their decisionmakers, and further developing existing relationships.

  • Developing promising programme ideas together with country managers, programme managers and the Project Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning team, translating them into funding proposals and, where needed, writing proposals yourself and critically reviewing proposals by others.

  • Leading the process from first concept to submission: bringing the right colleagues together, agreeing on roles and planning, and ensuring high-quality proposals that are submitted on time.

  • Advising on new opportunities and assessing strategically which partnerships fit PUM's long-term strategy.

  • Building and managing a pipeline of opportunities and reporting on progress to the Managing Director.

  • Working closely with the Business Developer Institutional Funding, especially where both fields meet, such as large international foundations.

  • Contributing to a stronger fundraising culture within PUM, including by working together with the new team of country and programme managers and our network of 1,200 volunteer experts.

What you bring

  • You are driven by PUM's mission and have at least five years of experience in fundraising or business development with foundations and/or companies, preferably in international development.

  • You have a proven track record in securing larger grants and partnerships and know how foundations and companies make decisions. A network among foundations and companies in the Netherlands is a strong advantage.

  • You write clear, convincing proposals and combine strategic insight with a practical, handson approach.

  • You are a connector who reads people well, and you keep the overview, also with many stakeholders and tight deadlines.

  • You set the right priorities, are critical and decisive, and dare to say no to opportunities that do not fit PUM.

  • You think in solutions and get energy from building something new in an organisation that is developing.

  • You have an excellent command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written. You work and think at Bachelor's or Master's level.

What we offer

The opportunity to develop a new role with plenty of room for initiative, in an organisation that is growing and full of can-do energy. You get to build PUM's fundraising from the ground up and see the direct impact of your work on entrepreneurs worldwide. The position is for 32 to 37.5 hours per week. The salary ranges from €4.392 to €6.100 gross per month, based on a full-time working week of 37.5 hours and depending on relevant experience. In addition, PUM offers an 8% holiday allowance, a 13th-month bonus, working-from-home and commuting allowances, 28 days of holiday, a pension plan and a vitality budget. Our modern office is within walking distance of The Hague Central Station, in a building we share with organisations including VNO-NCW, MKB-Nederland and Invest International. PUM values diversity and inclusion, and we welcome candidates of all backgrounds.

The team

You join an ambitious, impact-driven organisation with a diverse group of colleagues. You work closely with the Business Developer Institutional Funding, 26 locally based country managers, 12 programme managers in The Hague and the Project Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning team. You report to the Managing Director. Together with the country and programme managers, you map out opportunities and possibilities, both locally and internationally. Good collaboration, making connections and drawing on each other's expertise are key to success. At the same time, PUM is recruiting a Business Developer Institutional Funding, focusing on consortia and large institutional programmes. Together you form the core of PUM's fundraising.
